James "Tommy" Clagett, 43, a devoted husband to Jill and "girl dad" to Alaina and Zoey, was among 67 people killed in a plane crash over the Potomac River. The American Airlines jet he was on collided with an Army helicopter. Clagett was returning from a duck-hunting trip in Kansas with six friends, all from Southern Maryland, who also died in the crash.

A Newburg, Maryland resident, Clagett always considered his hometown of Accokeek "the promise land." He was a 2000 graduate of St. Mary's Ryken in Leonardtown, where he excelled as a star soccer and lacrosse player. He continued his education at East Carolina University, earning a bachelor's degree in construction management. Clagett served as executive vice president of Gaghan Mechanical Inc., a mechanical construction company, for 15 years.

Beyond his professional life, Clagett was an inspirational youth soccer coach and a standout soccer dad to every player and parent on the field, a passion he shared with his two daughters who also played the sport.

In loving memory of James "Tommy" Clagett, a devoted "girl dad" and inspirational youth soccer coach who tragically passed away, we are proud to host the First Annual FC Charles Clagett Cup Memorial Soccer Tournament. This event celebrates Tommy's enduring passion for the sport and the profound positive impact he had on young athletes and their families in our community.

4v4 Youth & High School Tournament

Our 4v4 tournament is designed to provide an action-packed, fast-paced competitive experience for the community's soccer players. To ensure a high level of play for everyone, we offer two distinct tiers: the RED Division (Advanced/Competitive) and the GREY Division (On-level/Developmental). Each team is guaranteed to play a minimum of 3 matches during the pool play stage, with placement finals held immediately after.

4v4 Tournament Details:
- Age Groups: U8 through U14 and High School.
- Schedule: Girls Youth & High School (Saturday) | Boys Youth (Sunday).
- Roster Size: Maximum of 8 players.
- Game Guarantee: Minimum of 3 games.
- Format Note: Brackets and pool play may be modified based on the number of teams registered in each division.

Adult Men’s & Women’s 7v7 Tournament

The Adult 7v7 tournament brings intense competition to the pitch in a one-day format. Teams will battle through pool play for a guaranteed 3-match schedule, with the top-performing teams advancing to the championship finals to crown the winners.

7v7 Tournament Details:
- Divisions: 1 Men’s Division | 1 Women’s Division.
- Max Teams: 8 teams per division.
- Roster Size: Maximum of 12 players.
- Format: Standard 7v7 rules played on high-visibility lined fields.
- Game Guarantee: Minimum of 3 games.

Important Registration Notes

Approval & Listing: All teams must receive committee approval before being officially listed.

Capacity & Waitlist: Registration is handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will not automatically close once a division reaches its maximum team count; teams registering after the cap is hit will be offered an alternate/waitlist spot or receive a full refund.

Roster Policy: Accurate rosters must be submitted before play begins. No roster changes are permitted once the tournament has commenced.
